New Regulations for Employers Hiring Highly Skilled Migrants

As a recognized sponsor, you are obligated to keep and retain details of your foreign national in your records to ensure they meet the conditions required for their residence permit. If sponsors fail to meet these obligations, they could face fines (under the Aliens Act /Β βVreemdelingenwetβ) or lose their recognition.
Starting from April 1, 2024, recognized sponsors of highly skilled migrants who earn less than β¬2,801 per month must keep extra records.
This includes the following documents:
- A copy of the diploma or certificate of the foreign national, confirming the graduation date
- A document showing that the foreign national has the required minimum level of knowledge of the English or Dutch language
If the foreign national has graduated outside the Netherlands you need:
- A copy of a credential evaluation from Nuffic and SBB of the diploma or certificate of the highly skilled worker.
- Documents showing that on the date of graduation or doctoral defense, the education institution ranked in the top 200 of at least 2 publishers. Tip: Keep copies of the following rankings:
